Most people will remember you as a member of Badfinger: the one who wrote most of the hits. Everyone agrees that you had a great talent and exceptional musical ability. I can certainly attest to that. Through my times with the band, I was always impressed by your tasteful and melodic approach. Some say that you were a genius.
To me you were simply a great bloke and a good friend. Sensitive, humble, kind; the antithesis of the arrogant self-obsessed star that we so often hear about.
You took your music very, very seriously: but not yourself. You knew who and what you were a local lad made good, a proud Welshman.
We first met in a rehearsal room in Denmark Street, do you remember? And we began to get to know each other 'on the road'. These were dark and difficult times, but we had some laughs and, despite everything, you really made me feel at home. I'm very proud of that last album we did together too; some great stuff and you were so easy to work with.
The last time that we saw each other was at your place, when you invited me down to stop for a few days. We played and had some fun, but problems were looming and the conversation would keep returning to our hopes and fears for the future.
I will always remember you with great fondness. You were warm and genuine it still shines through in those wonderful songs.
You achieved so much. You touched people and brought pleasure to so many.
Isn't that what its all about?
Still miss you, mate
